What is Communication?

For this assignment, I feel that the President Barack Obama demonstrates competent communication skills. I was watching the president speak on t.v. Thursday night during his congressional address and job proposal speech. The president was very clear and precise about his plan and the reasoning behind it. His behavior demonstrated that he understood what many Americans are facing now in this recession. President Obama made me and the other people in my family who were watching him feel like this proposal would be the solution to all of the Americans economic problems. He was effective at relaying this message because he spoke with authority and exhibited thorough knowledge about the issue. Even if this is not the case, his communication skills demonstrated otherwise.

I would want to model my communication skills after him because he is a great communicator. The president is able to win large crowds over by relating to their needs and demonstrating a sense of sincerity that is hard to imitate. He is also able to communicate with a skill that unites diverse people. Not many people can communicate one topic and make suggestions that opposing sides can agree on.

Paulette White (Mom):

My mother has been the rock of my family. My mother showed me how to be strong no matter what. It is because of my mother's passion for teaching children that I am in this field. My mother's favorite quote is "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me". I always think back to that verse when I feel like I'm overwhelmed.

Arthur White (Step-Dad):

My stepdad came into my life at the age of 15. Since then, he has been a wonderful father figure for me. My biological father passed away when I was 8 years old. He has been wonderful to me throughout my trying teenage years. I can always count on him to be there for me.

Inez Jones (Grandmother):

My granny is the best. My grandmother is a true woman of God. I remember my granny watching me before and after school. When ever I didn't feel good, my grandmother would first pray for me, then make up old remedies to help me get better. She is a shining star and reflection of God's blessings. My granny is 90 years old and still caring for our family.

Jakki Goins (sister-in-law):

My sister in law helped to shape me as well. She gives great advice. Our relationship has always been separate from her marriage to my brother. I think that's what I love about her. She always keeps it real.

The Late Bishop James R. Jones (pastor):

My pastor was a very strong man. He was a true man of God. He would always talk to the young boys and girls in our church. My pastor had a passion for children. He would take the children in our church on trips all around the world. His passion was so great for children that he opened a christian school. In the school, some people contributed whatever funds they could. For the most part, many of the parents couldn't afford to pay so our pastor kept the school running with his own earnings. He was a true example of what a man of God should be and he is missed daily. I will always love him!!
